To ti nepoví ani výrobce, nejspíš přímo někdo v USA nebo Číně.

I just picked up a pair of passive KRK K-ROK monitors on a whim. I don't have any experience with pro near-field monitors, but I thought it would be a fun demo and I might just like them. I have not had a chance to demo them yet, but tonight I will hook them up and give them a good run for their money and report back with a full review. As far as I can tell, they retailed for close to $1K new, so I'm excited to see what they sound like. KRK is a respected monitor brand, that I have heard good things about. I am not expecting the world since they are monitors and are made to be "analytical and critical"; but I figure if a sound engineer can listen to a track all day on them, why couldn't I?

Visual and tech review:
The KRK K-ROK is a stout 14" tall with tapered sides from a 12" base. This taper is supposed to reduce standing waves. A 1" silk dome tweeter and 7" latex-coated paper woofer with rubber surround split the signal at 2.5kHz to form the 2-way design. The speakers are constructed of 1" MDF and are very solid with rounded corner and two ports that nestle between the two drivers. They are rated at 8 ohms with an efficiency of 92 dB 1w/1m, and 100wpc. They weigh in at about 22lbs a piece and can take just about any abuse you can throw at them with their stout, solid build and "industrial" gray coating. The back of the cab is finished off with a set of 5-way binding posts to accommodate a number of termination choices.

Listening review:
Well, it turns out that both the tweeters are not working on these babies. I pulled them to double check that it is the tweets and not x-over or something, and both tweeters are DEAD. Bad times. I e-mailed KRK to see of they have replacements, but I'm not holding my breath. The only bright side to the story is that I got the speakers at the local thrift store for $15. They looked to be in great condition and the mids moved free so I thought I'd give them a try. It's weird that both tweeters are completely dead, but maybe I can find replacements; who knows.

Test system:
Custom built integrated tube amp
PC as source via S/PDIF uncompressed
AMC 8 DAC
Z Cables and ICs

hraji na Yamaha DX – SY a Kurzweil ARTIS
